SurfAid International
SurfAid International is a medical aid organization working to improve the health of people around the world connected to us through surfing.
The first of our work to support SurfAid started in late 2006, with the launch of our first line. We chose then to donate 25% of our designated shirts to SurfAid, and have continued to create new designs to secure ongoing support.
As our company grew, so did our relationship. In the summer of 2007, we met then Director of Development, Brian Pickett, and the idea of OKOTO hosting an East Coast event was tossed around.
It had been thought over for some time, and we were stoked when our friends, celebrated surf artist Jay Alders and his better half, entrepreneur Chelsea Rabbe, were interested in hosting it with us. It then became our goal to show the surfing community that the East Coast has love too … so with no budget and a few months of planning, Zimzala was held June 5, 2008.
Over 500 people come out to see renowned surf art, listen to incredible music, headlined by the North Shore’s Paula Fuga, and win prizes. In the end, we were proud to have raised $7,500 for SurfAid.
We have since collaborated with SurfAid on many other ideas and plans to help support their presence here on the East Coast. We’re super stoked to see their continued growth and excited for the new products and events we have on the horizon.

It started with our very first line, and has continued ever since. From donating 25% from each of our OKOTOrelief for SurfAid tees, to hosting Zimzala, their largest 2008 US fundraising event, our relationship is one that will only continue to grow.
